The faculties and research team of OIST are working on versatile fields of human and environmental interests. The most vibrant researchers, scholars are engaged in different application oriented fields of Clinical Biochemistry, Microbial Biotechnology, Agriculture Biotechnology, Medical Bioinformatics, Environmental Biotechnology, Toxicology and Recombinant DNA Technology. Different sub-domains of Biotechnological field are covered for job promoting research activities like tissue culture, mushroom cultivation, production of Probiotic strains, production of exopolysaccharides from thermophilic microorganisms, aqua- culture, food fermentation and value added nutraceuticals development etc.    
Our research team has already published more than 200 research/review papers in various national and international peer-reviewed journals of repute. Our research team is actively associated with various institute and University regarding Research and academic activities across India and outside India. Institute industrial collaborations and students’ promotion are our prime interests in this regard.  Already, more than 30 students have received their Ph.D. degrees under the supervision of our institutional faculties from different reputed Universities.
The Institute runs and/or already completed few scientific projects sponsored by the different funding agencies of Government of West Bengal and Government of India. Several personal student fellowships like DST inspire, MANF, Women’s Scientists award, Newton-Bhabha Foreign Collaborative funds have been procured by our scholars.
